Driver Hire Edinburgh City are currently recruiting reliable and experienced HGV Class 1 (C+E) Drivers for a well-established agricultural and food distribution business based in Edinburgh.
Our client operates a busy delivery operation, supplying customers across Scotland. Due to their ongoing requirements, they are looking for experienced Class 1 drivers to provide ad-hoc cover and support.
This is a great opportunity for drivers looking for flexible work around their existing commitments, with shifts available as and when required.
⚠️ This is a physically demanding role involving regular manual lifting and unloading. Moffett experience is essential.
🌾 The Role
Your duties will include:
- Driving HGV Class 1 vehicles safely and professionally
- Delivering agricultural and food products to customers and commercial sites
- Manually loading and unloading goods where required
- Using a Moffett-mounted forklift to load and unload pallets
- Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks
- Ensuring loads are secure and transported safely
- Completing delivery paperwork accurately
- Following transport legislation and company procedures
- Providing a professional service to customers
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety
🕒 Working Hours
- Ad-hoc work
- Start times typically between 5:00am and 6:00am
- Flexible shifts available depending on client requirements
- Opportunity to pick up additional shifts when available
- Ideal for drivers looking for flexibility alongside other commitments
🏋️ Physical Requirements
This role involves regular manual handling, so applicants must be physically fit and comfortable with the physical demands of the position.
You must be:
- Comfortable with regular manual lifting
- Physically fit and able to load and unload goods
- Comfortable working in an outdoor/agricultural environment
- Experienced and confident operating a Moffett
- Able to safely load and unload pallets using the Moffett
💷 Pay Rates
PAYE
- £15.50 per hour
- £20.66 per hour after 8 hours
PAYE Advanced
- £17.37 per hour
- £23.15 per hour after 8 hours
💰 Minimum 8 hours’ pay guaranteed per shift

✅ What We’re Looking For
- Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) licence
- Valid Driver CPC
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- Previous Class 1 driving experience
- Previous Moffett experience – essential
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual lifting
- Comfortable with regular loading and unloading
- Maximum 9 penalty points
- No DD, DR, CD or IN endorsements
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Strong focus on safety and compliance
- Good communication and customer service skills
⚠️ Drug and alcohol testing may be carried out during induction and on a random basis throughout employment.
