Proud supporters of National Lorry Week

Driver Hire is once again supporting National Lorry Week (25 – 31 October). Now into its seventh year, National Lorry Week celebrates the role that lorries play in our everyday lives – as well as the people who drive them and everyone who makes logistics possible.

Held annually by the Road Haulage Association (RHA), it is a week-long campaign which raises awareness of, and celebrates, the incredible work that the UK haulage industry does for us all. And not just in tough times – but every single day of the year.

“One of the positive things for our industry that came out of the pandemic was that the general public perhaps realised again just how vital drivers and other logistics professionals are to the way we all want to live our lives,” says Richard Owen-Hughes, Group Marketing Director.

“There’s a greater awareness of how finely tuned the supply chain is and hopefully, people have stronger appreciation for truck drivers. It’s a job that carries huge responsibilities – from road safety to the simple value of the vehicle and its load. It can also be a very rewarding career. Professional drivers deserve respect and to be rewarded for the job that they do. Hopefully, as people realise just how essential they are, conditions will improve and more people will be drawn in to the industry,” he continues.

“In terms of incentives and pay-outs, driving is not the only sector where this is happening, but it is attracting a lot of media attention at the moment. It’s to be hoped that this is one early sign that people are starting to attach a greater value to this particular career choice.”

National Lorry Week gets bigger and better each year and Driver Hire has supported the event for a number of years. Logistics is the UK’s fifth largest industry, worth £124bn to the UK economy according to the RHA. It also offers a fantastic range of career options for anyone thinking about their future. As we like to say at Driver Hire, it is “Much More Than Driving”.

In support of the week-long campaign, Gary Riches (Driver Hire Colchester) and Tony Goacher (Driver Hire Croydon & Sutton) (pictured) will air a special edition of the Driver Hire Podcast on 25 October where they will be speaking to Tom Cornwell of the RHA about the week, why drivers love logistics and various fun facts about the sector.

You too can raise awareness of the great contributions that drivers are making to our industry by joining the conversation online, or by visiting and sharing information from our dedicated National Lorry Week pages which includes more about the campaign, careers information, case studies and more.
