Driver Hire’s National Accounts team is one of the sponsors of a major and very worthwhile charity fundraiser organised by Alliance Healthcare – one of Driver Hire’s major national clients. Now into its second year, the Tour de Alliance aims to raise £30,000 for UK-based charity, Vitamin Angels UK.
Vitamin Angels UK helps prevent childhood malnutrition by providing free weekly deliveries of fruit, veg and protein rich foods which are distributed by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) to parents and children in need.
As you can probably guess from its title, the Tour de Alliance involves cycling. Rather a lot of cycling in fact. The seven riders taking part are covering 500 kilometres (that’s 315 miles in old money) in just five days, starting on June 10th and finishing on June 14th. And it’s not just about the distance. The organisers have mapped out a route starting in Coatbridge, Scotland and ending in South Normanton, Derbyshire that takes the riders through the Scottish Borders, the Lakes and the Peak District. Flat it is not – there are enough hills to weaken the resolve of even the steeliest of shaven legged cyclists.
“Around one in four children in the UK live in poverty and are at risk of food insecurity,” says Hannah Simpson (a Senior Marketing and Communications Manager at Alliance Healthcare). “The pandemic has made life particularly tough both for the charity’s beneficiaries and the charity itself, so every pound we raise is doubly important. En route the riders will be visiting several of our service centres who are organising their own local fund-raising activities. Through our support for Vitamin Angels UK, Alliance Healthcare has already had a positive impact on the lives of over 315,000 children and their parents. But we want to do so much more.”
Alliance Healthcare UK is the leading distributor and wholesaler of pharmaceutical, medical and healthcare products in the UK.
