The dawn payrollers

The payroll team at Wilson Gibb Management Services (WGMS), based at Driver Hire Motherwell, had an early Saturday morning start recently. They were taking part in the 2024 ‘Sunrise Walk of Hope’ joining thousands of other early risers at Glasgow’s Science Centre.

The walk raises money for an excellent local charity, ‘Chris’s House’, which provides a 24-hour lifeline for people who are feeling suicidal.

“Sadly, many people have been touched by suicide and the loss of a loved one, family member or friend,” says Leeann Byrne who, along with colleagues Linda Rooney, Claire McIloney and Nicola Blyth, set their alarms for about two hours after they normally go to bed. The walkers were welcomed to the Science Centre with hot drinks, inspirational speeches and a dawn chorus from the fantastic songbirds otherwise known as the ‘Soundsational Choir’.

When it was time to embark on their 5km circular walk along the banks of the River Clyde, the payroll team were blessed with an amazing sunrise, making their uncomfortable wake-up call all the more worthwhile.

“Our boss, Darrin Gibb, suggested ‘Chris’s House’ as a target for our 2024 charity fundraising efforts,” Leeann continues. “There are ‘Chris’s Houses’ in both Wishaw and Dalkeith, close to WGMS offices. It’s an excellent local charity well worthy of our support. The idea of the sunrise start is to show that after the dark, there’s always light. We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us and helped us raise in excess of £1200.”

Based in Motherwell, Wilson Gibb Management Services Ltd (WGMS), which operates Driver Hire offices in Edinburgh, Fife, Grangemouth, Motherwell, the Borders and Newcastle has enjoyed a 30-year partnership with Driver Hire.
