Tom takes on Torbay – Driver Hire’s youngest ever franchisee

Enterprising local businessman, Tom Williams, has just become his own boss – at the tender age of 22. Tom – who’s from Newton Abbott – has bought the Driver Hire franchise covering Torbay. Driver Hire’s youngest ever franchisee, he’s eagerly looking forward to the challenge of running his own business.

“Both my parents are self employed so I think the entrepreneurial spirit must run in the family,” says Tom. “Over the past few years there’s been a lot of investment in the Torbay area bringing new homes, new people and great potential for a specialist recruitment business. I think there are massive opportunities here – that’s why I decided this was the time to make my move.”

Tom is a perfect example of the value of modern apprenticeships. He left school at 16 and started work as an apprentice at Driver Hire’s Plymouth office where he gradually honed his recruitment skills. Before deciding to buy his own Driver Hire business, Tom was branch manager for Plymouth’s South Devon territory.

Commenting on Tom’s decision to join Driver Hire’s nationwide network, Graham Duckworth, Driver Hire’s Franchise Sales Director said: “We’re a highly respected and ethical franchise business. We make sure that all potential franchisees have the right mix of skills and business acumen to be successful. Tom more than met all the criteria and we look forward to working with him in the years to come.”

Established for nearly 40 years, Driver Hire provides temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector. If they’re short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays, or seasonal demand – Driver Hire will supply them with a suitable replacement.
