Temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours ends 31 March

The current relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales for drivers involved in the international carriage of goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland is due to end on 31 March 2021.

The Department for Transport (DfT) introduced the relaxation, temporarily, on 22 January due to the exceptional pressures on the freight industry caused by Covid-19 and the circumstances stemming from the end of the EU transition period.

There are no plans to extend the relaxation after 31 March, although the DfT has stated this “is kept under review, and the DfT reserves the right to withdraw or amend the relaxation if circumstances change.”
