Great British Franchise Cycle 2019

On August 1st a nine person Driver Hire cycling team lined up on the virtual start-line for the Great British Franchise Cycle 2019 (GBFC). They’re in competition with nine other teams from the world of franchising; their collective aim is to see how many miles they can cover before midnight on August 31st.  As you’ll appreciate, this is outside their normal working routine!

In case you’re wondering, the team comprises: Adele Turner (National Accounts), Ben Buckle (National Accounts), Dave Robbins (Press Officer), Gary Riches (Franchisee, Driver Hire Colchester), Mark Ashton (IT Systems Developer), Mike Wood (Business Analyst), Owen Bielby (National Accounts), Richard Crook (Quality Manager) and Tim Scott (IT Business Partner).

At halfway point in the competition, the Driver Hire team, with 1,100 miles on the clock, is in the lead. Of course, there’s a long way to go, but it’s great to see Driver Hire leading the way.

The bigger picture

As well as helping Driver Hire people keep fit and raise the profile of franchising locally, the GBFC has another aim – to raise money for the Franchise Trust.

The Franchise Trust is an independent charity that seeks to reduce unemployment in the UK by offering training and employment opportunities to job seekers. It also works with educators to promote awareness of franchising to the next generation.

It would be great if offices and departments could support the efforts of the Driver Hire cycling team by making a donation to the Trust. There is a JustGiving page to enable you to do this.
