Figures from Screen Yorkshire, the engine that drives the film and TV industries in Yorkshire and the Humber, show that employment in TV and film soared by 82% between 2015 and 2018 (the most recently published data). The number of TV and film businesses operating in the region grew by 27% over the same period.
TV productions such as ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and ‘Gentleman Jack’, have all used Yorkshire as a backdrop. In the film world, the most recent addition was the star studded ‘Railway Children Revisited’, which was on general release during the summer.
“We’ve a number of TV and film production companies on our patch,” says Fiona Hennah, joint franchisee at Driver Hire Leeds West. “Over several years Driver Hire has developed an excellent reputation in the industry. Our experience helps us source the right drivers for the job. Mainly it involves supplying what’s known in the industry as ‘swing moves’. In plainer English it means driving generating or lighting equipment from one outdoor location to another. It would be fantastic if Driver Hire or any of our drivers were featured in the credits.”
