Franchisees Michael and Jayne Anne O’Flynn – owners of Driver Hire Grimsby and Scunthorpe were joint runners-up in the 2019 Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce ‘Excellence in the Community’ Business Award. The award is sponsored by shipping company DFDS. This is the second year that Driver Hire Grimsby and Scunthorpe have been nominated for this award.
Michael and Jayne Anne attracted the judges’ attention because of their ongoing commitment to the community in which they operate. Over the past three years, Michael and Jayne Anne have organised a number of prestigious fund-raisers and sponsored community events. To date they’ve raised £20,000 for ‘When you wish upon a Star’, which grants the wishes of children living with a life threatening illness. They’re currently raising £15k for a 52 year old Grimsby lady to ‘help her walk again’, following a fall in July 2018. They also support local hospices: Lindsey Lodge and St. Andrew’s and sponsor high-vis jackets for pupils at Havelock Academy, Grimsby who cycle to school. Other charities to benefit from their community programme are Community Linkage Lincoln, Cash for Kids, Lives and the NSPCC.
Commenting on their nomination, Jayne Anne said: “Community engagement is an important element of our business. It’s nice to be able to help where we can and have a positive impact on the local community.”
