Mobile HGV Technician / Vehicle Mechanic
Coventry, Tamworth & Surrounding Areas
PAY RATES:
£17.90 (per hour base) – PAYE
Up to £28 per hour for Overtime + Call-Out
These rates are inclusive of holiday pay (other pay models are available)
Driver Hire Coventry are recruiting an experienced Mobile HGV Technician / Vehicle Mechanic for a genuine temp-to-perm opportunity with a well-established operation.
This is a hands-on, field-based role suited to someone who enjoys working hard, independently, solving problems on the job, and stepping away from the routine of a workshop environment.
This is more than a temporary position. Candidates who demonstrate reliability, strong performance and flexibility will have the opportunity to secure a permanent role.
The Role:
This is not a workshop-based job. You’ll be out on the road, responding to issues as they arise and keeping commercial vehicles moving.
- Attend HGV and commercial vehicle breakdowns (wagon)
- Carry out on-site repairs, servicing and diagnostics
- Work independently and manage your own workload
- Complete job sheets and reports accurately
- Provide a professional, reliable service under pressure
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic (HGV or commercial vehicles preferred)
- We will also consider experienced car/automotive technicians who have strong transferable mechanical and diagnostic skills and are keen to move into a mobile HGV role. If you’re looking

- Full UK driving licence (maximum 6 points – SP codes only)
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
- Comfortable working alone in a mobile environment
- Flexible and willing to take part in an on-call rota
