Job Title: Transport Manager
Type: Full Time, Permanent
Pay Rate: £50,000 per annum
Location: Fareham
Start Date: Immediate
We are currently working with a client based in Fareham to recruit an experienced Transport Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing operation, where you will play a key role in improving fleet performance, driving operational efficiency, and supporting the ongoing expansion of the transport function.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in managing and scaling transport operations across multiple regions
- Strong knowledge of multi-drop route optimisation, particularly within London and surrounding areas
- Experience overseeing fleet operations, compliance, and cost control
- Ability to produce clear, structured monthly reports for senior leadership teams
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting, data analysis, and root cause investigation
- Solid understanding of driver compliance, working time regulations, and transport legislation
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a “can-do” attitude
- Commitment to delivering best-in-class customer service
Key Responsibilities:
Operational & Strategic Projects
- Review and identify improvements across the current fleet operation (6 x 3.5T vans) within the first 4–8 weeks
- Lead the implementation of automation between the ERP system and MaxOptra in collaboration with IT (target delivery by Q2)
- Manage the planned fleet expansion from 6 vehicles to 12+ within 18 months
Driver Management
- Oversee driver administration including licence checks, working time records, and medical declarations
- Monitor driver performance and ensure compliance with driving hours and rest regulations
- Manage defect reporting processes
- Support disciplinary procedures, absence management, and performance improvement
Vehicle Management
- Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and serviced in line with schedules
- Verify insurance, height indicators, and payload notifications are up to date
- Ensure daily vehicle checks are completed by drivers
Operational Leadership
- Manage day-to-day depot transport operations to ensure efficient, on-time service delivery
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, and internal teams
- Monitor budgets and maintain effective cost control
- Drive operational excellence and consistently achieve KPIs
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture
- Investigate and report incidents, accidents, and near misses
- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to ensure a safe working environment
Performance Metrics
- Monitor failed delivery percentage (%)
- Track average drop time (minutes)
- Measure average time between drops (minutes)
- Control delivery cost per sales order (£)
