CATEGORY C+E (HGV CLASS 1)

Get the most comprehensive licence you can hold, your HGV Class 1. Suitable for anyone who holds or is training for a Category C licence and who wants to increase their earning potential by driving the biggest trucks on the road. More details

 

CATEGORY C1 (7.5 TONNE)

Required for all vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes, this licence is ideal if you want to upgrade from regular van work but remain in light lorries such as supermarket delivery vans and small rigid lorries. Always in demand. More details

 

ADR

The ADR licence is a special vocational certificate, which entitles you to drive vehicles with tanks or carrying certain categories of dangerous goods. More details

 

HIAB

Many commercial vehicles are now fitted with a ‘lorry mounted crane’ – for example for delivering building materials to a construction site or logs to a home. To operate these vehicles, you’ll need your HIAB certificate. More details

 

PCV

To become a professional driver of larger minibuses (9-16 seats), buses and coaches, you need a Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) Category D or D1 licence. More details

HOW TO FIND US

We are ideally situated in St Clements, Oxford on the corner of Bath Street. This is in the area between Magdalen Bridge and Headington on the outskirts of our beautiful city. Being so close to the M40 our office is very convenient for London or Birmingham.

From London leave the M40 at Junction 8 and take the A40 to Oxford. At the Headington roundabout take the road towards the City Centre driving through Headington and the down Headington Hill. At the bottom of the hill go through the traffic lights and our office is on the right hand side on the corner of Bath Street.

From the North leave the M40 at junction 9 and take the A34 south towards Newbury. Leave this road at the Pear Tree Interchange and go towards the City centre, turning left onto the ring road, after 2 miles turn right at the Headington roundabout and follow the same directions as above.

Thomas first joined Driver Hire Oxford in 2012 as an apprentice fresh out of college. Since then, he’s become an integral part of the team, taking on a core administrative role that includes everything from payroll and invoicing to ensuring the office remains fully compliant.

He also plays a vital role in our Driver CPC training operations, managing all related admin tasks and keeping our TAS system accurate and up to date. In addition, Thomas handles all dhLicence checks for both clients and candidates, supporting our commitment to high standards and safety.

Known for his calm, professional manner and consistently positive attitude, Thomas excels at building strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike. He plays a key role in managing the day-to-day admin that keeps the office running efficiently and his dedication to detail is reflected in the fact that he consistently achieves outstanding results in our annual compliance audits.

Frequently asked questions

For Candidates: What do I need to do to register with you?

You can register online via this website. Alternatively if you prefer, you can give us a call or just pop in. Quality is at the heart of all we do so we take our candidate registration process very seriously. Before we can offer you work you will need to attend a face-to-face interview. When you come in to see us, you will need to bring certain key information with you. You must provide your National Insurance number, bank details and another form of ID such as a passport or birth certificate. Where relevant you will need to provide proof of your right to work in the UK. For driving work we need to see your original driver’s licence (both parts if a photo card) and proof of any additional licences you hold, such as ADR, Moffett, Hiab etc We always take up references on every candidate so please also provide phone numbers of two work related referees.

For Candidates: What type of work can you offer me? 

We can offer you a wide range of different jobs. As well as lots of driving work, across all licence categories, we are always recruiting for many non-driving roles. For Candidates: How old do I have to be to work as a Driver Hire driver?

We welcome candidates of all ages. Please be aware that insurance requirements for certain roles mean that an age limit may apply to that particular role.

For Customers: Are all your drivers fully compliant with relevant legislation?

Nothing is more important to Driver Hire than safety and full regulatory compliance. All Driver Hire drivers have to take a 150-point competency test before they are allowed to work for us and we provide ongoing updates on new rules and regulations as they are introduced. We also have bespoke IT systems in place to monitor the work our staff do for us. You can be confident that any member of staff you take on from Driver Hire Oxford has been fully briefed on any relevant legislation.

For Customers: Can you help me out at short notice?

Absolutely. Some people say it’s what we do best. As the UK’s leading specialist supplier of transport and logistics staff, we have an extensive database of high quality candidates ready to step in and help you out.
