Driver Hire Leeds West are currently recruiting Minibus Drivers with D1 entitlement to work on a term-time basis with a well-established local authority transport provider in Leeds.

This role supports essential SEN school transport and Adult Social Care transport, assisting both children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and adults with additional needs. It is a rewarding, people-focused driving role for individuals who value teamwork, reliability, and making a positive difference within the local community.

The Role

As a Minibus Driver, you will be responsible for transporting children with SEN between their homes and schools during term time, as well as transporting adults supported by Adult Social Care to day centres, appointments, and other locations.

You will provide a safe, calm, and supportive service, working closely with passenger assistants, transport coordinators, schools, and families to ensure journeys are completed professionally and on time.

Typical Working Pattern

The role usually consists of a morning run and an afternoon run, each lasting approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Although driving time is often less, an 8-hour shift is paid.

Work patterns may vary from week to week in line with passenger requirements and route allocations, reflecting the changing needs of the service. This flexibility makes the role well suited to drivers seeking term-time work, school-hours employment, part-time hours, or semi-retired drivers.

Key Responsibilities

Driving a minibus safely and in line with road traffic legislation
Providing SEN school transport and Adult Social Care transport
Assisting passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle when required
Completing vehicle checks, route paperwork, and daily driving logs
Working reliably as part of a supportive transport team

Driver Requirements

Full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement
MIDAS certificate preferred, although training can be provided
Valid DBS check, or willingness to complete one
A patient, empathetic, and caring approach
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team

Previous experience as a Minibus Driver, SEN Driver, School Transport Driver, or Care Transport Driver is advantageous but not essential.
