Domiciliary Care Worker

Purpose of the Role

Provide compassionate, person‑centred care and support to individuals in their own homes, helping them maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life. This includes personal care, practical assistance, and emotional support tailored to each person’s needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal Care — Support with washing, dressing, toileting, grooming, continence care, and mobility.
  • Medication Support — Assist with prompting, administering (where appropriate), and recording medication in line with care plans.
  • Meal Preparation — Prepare nutritious meals and drinks, support with eating and drinking, and monitor dietary needs.
  • Household Tasks — Carry out light domestic duties such as cleaning, laundry, and shopping to maintain a safe home environment.
  • Companionship — Provide social interaction, conversation, and emotional reassurance to reduce loneliness and promote wellbeing.
  • Community Support — Assist with attending appointments, social activities, or accessing the community when required.
  • Record Keeping — Maintain accurate, timely notes on care delivered, changes in condition, and any concerns.
  • Safeguarding — Recognise and report any signs of abuse, neglect, or deterioration in health following organisational procedures.
  • Team Collaboration — Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure consistent, high‑quality care.

Essential Skills and Qualities

  • Empathy and patience when supporting people with varying needs.
  • Strong communication skills to build trust and rapport.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for time‑sensitive visits.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments within the scope of the role.
  • Respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Physical capability to assist with mobility and personal care tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience in care is helpful but not always essential; full training is often provided.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (if required for travel between visits).
  • Willingness to undergo DBS checks and mandatory training (e.g., safeguarding, moving and handling).
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, or on a rota basis.
