Driver Hire backs Road Safety Week 2025: Safe Vehicles Save Lives

National recruitment company, Driver Hire, is playing its part in preventing deaths and injuries on UK roads by supporting this year’s Road Safety Week (16th–22nd November). Organised by Brake, the national road safety charity, the theme for 2025 is ‘Safe Vehicles’.

Every year, over 1,700 people die and 30,000 are seriously injured on UK roads. These figures have remained stubbornly high for more than a decade.

Commenting on the statistics and Driver Hire’s plans for Road Safety Week, Chris Chidley, Driver Hire’s Chief Executive, said:

“As one of the leading suppliers of temporary drivers to the road transport and logistics industry, we’ve around 2,500 drivers out on the road every day. Clearly, we want to ensure their safety and the safety of all other road-users, especially the more vulnerable – pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorcyclists. That’s why we’ve been a keen supporter of Road Safety Week for over 20 years.”

This year’s theme highlights how the right vehicle checks and technology can prevent crashes and protect lives. Safe vehicles are designed to avoid collisions, protect people inside and outside the vehicle, and support driver awareness and emergency response.

Driver Hire is reinforcing this message by reminding all drivers to carry out a daily walk-around check before starting a shift. It takes just five to ten minutes to check tyres, lights, mirrors and other key components – and it could be the difference between a safe journey and a serious incident. To support this, Driver Hire published a ‘Daily Walk Round Check’ poster covering all the essentials last year, and made the free resource available online.

In addition, Driver Hire Training offers a wide range of driver training programmes to promote road safety and vehicle awareness. These include:

  • One-to-one driver training
  • Fleet training workshops
  • Driver CPC modules
  • Training on topics such as driver safety, vehicle roadworthiness, and emergency procedures

By combining regular checks with ongoing training and awareness, Driver Hire is helping to ensure that every journey is as safe as possible – because safe vehicles save lives.
