dh Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a community sports charity for an experienced Head of Education to lead, manage and develop its education provision across partner primary and secondary schools.

This is a varied role combining education programme management, school-partnership development, staff leadership and the practical delivery of Physical Education.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring that school programmes are properly planned, delivered, monitored and developed. You will act as a key contact for partner schools, support education staff, and ensure that you meet contractual, funding, and quality requirements.

You must be confident in working independently in school environments and capable of taking responsibility for the education programme from September 2026.

Key responsibilities

School partnerships

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with partner primary and secondary schools
  • Act as a main point of contact for school partners and education stakeholders
  • Coordinate School Service Level Agreements and ensure documentation is completed, signed and accurately recorded
  • Conduct regular review meetings with schools
  • Monitor school satisfaction and respond to changing requirements
  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing and prospective schools

Programme management and delivery

  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of education programmes across partner schools
  • Personally deliver high-quality Physical Education sessions within school settings
  • Communicate curriculum topics, schemes of work and delivery expectations to education staff
  • Ensure programmes are delivered consistently and to the required standards
  • Monitor delivery against agreed objectives and key performance indicators
  • Ensure staff have the information and resources needed to deliver effective sessions

Staff leadership

  • Lead, support and motivate education staff
  • Set clear expectations regarding programme content, delivery standards and professional conduct
  • Observe and review delivery where required
  • Identify areas for improvement and support staff development
  • Promote a positive, supportive and collaborative team culture

Funding, monitoring and compliance

  • Lead the planning and delivery of funded education programmes
  • Ensure contractual targets and programme KPIs are achieved
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, evidence and programme documentation
  • Monitor programme performance against funding agreements
  • Work with colleagues to meet evidence-collection and reporting requirements
  • Ensure programme information is accurate, compliant and securely maintained

Business development and financial performance

  • Identify opportunities to increase education provision across primary and secondary schools
  • Develop new school relationships and strengthen existing partnerships
  • Work towards agreed annual income targets
  • Monitor the financial performance of education programmes
  • Support the preparation of proposals and service packages for schools
  • Identify opportunities to improve the sustainability and growth of education services

Events and quality assurance

  • Plan and coordinate education events, competitions and enrichment activities
  • Manage programme milestones and ensure key events are delivered successfully
  • Liaise with colleagues and external partners
  • Monitor participant engagement and programme outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of delivery, observations and school engagement
  • Review quality-assurance processes and recommend improvements
  • Produce performance and progress reports for senior management

Essential experience and skills

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • Experience managing education, school, school-sport or community programmes
  • Practical experience delivering Physical Education within school settings
  • Experience leading, supporting or developing staff
  • Strong organisational and project-management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • The confidence to communicate professionally with schools and external partners
  • Experience monitoring budgets, targets or performance information
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Access to suitable transport for travel between schools and community venues

Desirable experience

It would be beneficial to have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status, a teaching qualification or another relevant education qualification
  • Experience working within school sport, community sport, a charity or a sport-for-development organisation
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and quality-assurance procedures
  • Experience managing funded programmes
  • Experience reporting against contractual targets or KPIs
  • Experience developing proposals or service packages for schools

The person

This role requires someone who is comfortable combining practical delivery with management responsibility.

You may be delivering PE within a school, meeting with a school leader, supporting a member of staff, reviewing programme results or preparing information for a funding report.

You will need to be organised, dependable and comfortable taking ownership of the programme. You should also be able to build trust with schools, communicate expectations clearly and identify opportunities to improve and grow the service.
