Kilts raise cash for Chris’s House

Twelve Driver Hire staff from offices in Scotland raised £5,000 when they completed Edinburgh’s annual Kiltwalk. The offices, all owned by Wilson Gibb Management Services, included Borders, Edinburgh City, Edinburgh West, Fife, Motherwell along with members of the Wilson Gibb payroll team.

The Kiltwalk is a major annual fundraiser; the 2024 version had over 9,000 participants who, collectively, raised an amazing £1.5m for 800 Scottish charities.

The September day was blessed with perfect weather with walkers, depending on age and fitness, choosing from three different challenges – a 20 mile ‘Mighty Stride’, an 11 mile ‘Big Stroll’ or a family oriented ‘Five Mile’ wander. The ‘Kiltwalkers’ were led off by a piper as they headed for Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat, Musselburgh and Portobello before finishing at Murrayfield Rugby Stadium.

Rachael McWilliams (Operations & Development Director) was one of the Wilson Gibb walkers. “We chose to support ‘Chris’s House’,” says Rachael. “It’s a charity very local to us. ‘Chris’s House’ provides support, response and intervention for people struggling with suicidal feelings. Its aim is to reduce cases of suicide by offering a safe place for people to go who need support.

“It also offers advice so friends and family members can be both supportive and vigilant when a loved one has expressed suicidal feelings. September is ‘Suicide prevention and awareness month’, which, again, made it the perfect charity to benefit from our efforts. Going out for a stroll can be a great way to improve mental health and we all enjoyed a great day’s walking, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air whilst raising funds for a great cause.”
