A strong partnership
I’d always enjoyed sales, but it was my wife Jane who recommended I try recruitment. It allows me to combine my business development skills with my passion for customer service. I initially joined Driver Hire as a business development consultant in its Warrington office. I became an Area Development Manager, supporting offices across the north, soon afterwards. My wife Jane joined the business’s Liverpool office in October 2013 and in March 2017 Driver Hire offered us the opportunity to buy a share of the branch as part of a joint venture.

Ideal stepping stone
Owning an office as a joint venture is the perfect stepping stone to becoming a full franchisee. It allows you to gain experience of running your own business, while still receiving support from the central team at Driver Hire. Not many other franchises or recruitment firms offer this opportunity.
It’s also great working for a national brand like Driver Hire, knowing there’s a wide network and systems in place to support you. This support was a major factor of our decision process when buying into the business. Another benefit is feeling part of a team. We really enjoy meeting new people through the network and Driver Hire’s regional meetings, conferences and regular competitions are a great way to do that.
Planning our future
Since taking over the Liverpool office, we’ve seen huge success. We’ve generated a turnover of £1.1m this year and even came top of an Annual Sales Day, where we secured more than 140 appointments in one day. While we enjoy the security of being backed by Driver Hire, we are working towards becoming a full franchisee in a few years. It’s our ultimate goal and we know the business will give us the support to get there.
