Sarah Whiteside - Wakefield

Sarah Whiteside got her Driver Hire franchise away to a flying start. When she took over Driver Hire Wakefield, the office was covering 20 shifts a week. After two months under her ownership – and an office move – the business was doing that number on a daily basis!

To be fair, Sarah didn’t come into the business totally green. Before buying her own franchise she'd been part of the Driver Hire network for a number of years; working at Manchester and then moving to Huddersfield when her husband, Paul, purchased the franchise.

Rest assured, Sarah’s Wakefield move wasn’t the result of a family fallout. Sarah simply had the nous to spot an opportunity at Wakefield and decided to go for it herself. “Bringing this office back to its former glory looked like an exciting challenge,” says Sarah. “Running your own Driver Hire office is certainly different to just working in one. Suddenly it’s you in the spotlight. There were so many things that I’d never had to deal with before; credit control and marketing for instance. But my Area Development Manager was brilliant - and of course I could call Paul for help too.”

And what about the additional challenge of being a woman in a man’s world? “Absolutely not a problem,” says Sarah. “There’s no reason why a woman can’t make just as much of a success of a Driver Hire franchise as a man.”
