Andrew & Lynda Deeming - Shrewsbury

 

Since Andrew and Lynda took over their Driver Hire franchise on Bonfire Night 2007 it’s fair to say that their business has gone with a bang and a whoosh. Despite working through a challenging market they’ve stayed ahead of trend and are regularly achieving turnover levels a third ahead of the previous year.

 

A former business, accounts and finance lecturer, Andrew has had previous experience of building his own business. He started a shed retailing operation from scratch and took it to £800,000 annual turnover. So using his past experience, what differences does he detect between being your own boss and being your own boss of a franchise?

 

“As any Driver Hire franchisee will tell you, network back-up is invaluable. The whole set-up is very professional. What they don’t do is take your money and run!”

 

Using his past experience – both as his own boss and from the world of academia – what attributes does Andrew think you need to be a successful Driver Hire franchisee? “An appreciation of what constitutes good service – that applies to both customers and your drivers. Tenacity and being prepared to make cold calls. And I think you need to be flexible too.”
