Scottish Franchisee in line for top award
Tony McCafferty, owner of Driver Hire Inverness, has been nominated for a top business award. He’s a finalist in the ‘Best Newcomer’ section of this year’s Scottish Recruitment Awards.
The Scottish Recruitment Awards have been created by Scottish Business Insider and the Scottish Daily Record to recognise the industry’s top achievers and showcase the outstanding achievements of recruitment companies from across Scotland.
Since taking over Driver Hire’s Inverness franchise, he’s doubled the number of clients and substantially improved profitability. What’s more, the current tough trading conditions haven’t prevented him getting away to a flying start in 2009/10 - and he has achieved all this in a town with a population of just 60,000.
Tony brings a refreshing and positive style to recruitment. When we phoned him about his nomination, he was returning from a meeting with a packaging company. They were looking for people to work on their box manufacturing production line. ‘Meeting’ may not be the appropriate word here, because Tony spent most of the time working on the production line – making boxes!
“Recruitment isn’t just about skills,” says Tony. “Behaviour and workplace atmosphere comes into it too. Not everyone is suited to a factory environment. By actually doing the job I can give candidates a better brief.” It certainly paid off. Tony filled the four vacancies – much to the delight of his client.
He was nominated for the award by Driver Hire’s regional manager, Dean Hewitt. “As with any successful business person, self-motivation and a will to win is what counts. Tony has those in abundance. He’s also very personable, a good communicator and a great guy to work with.”
This view was confirmed by DHL’s Inverness depot Section Manager, Les Reid, who is a regular customer. “The support we receive and the quality of candidates they supply means we don’t have to waste time trying other agencies. Tony McCafferty and the team are excellent; very much on our wavelength and up to speed. “
Tony will find out whether he’s won the big prize on June 16th at the awards finals which are being held at Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel.
