Gatwick’s great charity drive

The four-man team at Driver Hire Gatwick are not only ace recruiters – they’re ace charity fundraisers too.

For the past three years they’ve set themselves a challenge to raise money for Save the Children. In 2014 they completed a triathlon; in 2015 it was a 24-hour 55 mile walk.

This year they spent £295 on a 13 year-old Ford Mondeo with 120,000 miles on the clock. Sharing the driving, they then drove (in 24 hours) from Gatwick to our office in Aberdeen, visiting around eleven other Driver Hire offices en route. Their road trip clocked up 1250 miles and not only raised over £1200 for Save the Children, the guys also raised a similar amount for Driver Hire’s benevolent fund.

Incredibly after spending a whole day crammed together in a car they’re still friends – and still working together. Commenting on their achievement, Nic Chaviaris, owner of Driver Hire Gatwick said: “Physically this wasn’t as tough as last year’s walk – but with four guys in a confined space it was a lot smellier! We’re delighted that we’ve raised so much for two great charities and would like to thank everybody who’s supported us.”

Helena Wiltshire, a spokesperson for Save the Children, says: “We’re so grateful for Driver Hire Gatwick’s fundraising efforts. The money raised will help us continue our work around the world to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – to ensure they have a better future. We couldn’t continue our vital work without the help of our incredible supporters, so thank you!”
