Drivers Hours rules relaxed due to fuel shortages
EU Drivers' Hours rules have been relaxed by the UK Government until Thursday next week, for fuel tanker drivers. The move comes following requests by the fuel supply industry, in response to the shortages currently being experienced on many of the country's forecourts.
'Panic-buying' has been widespread in light of the possibility of a strike by tanker drivers in the Unite union, over the Easter period. With demand for fuel having rocketed by up to 172% in recent days, many forecourts are running dry.
Even though the threat of strike action at Easter has been lifted, the finely balancely fuel supply system in the UK has already been disrupted sufficiently to make special measures necessary.
