Driver Hire Belfast in line for national award

Diane Maxwell, her brother Danny, daughter Danielle and cousin Helen Alcorn are the fabulous family team behind the success story that is Driver Hire Belfast. So much so, they’ve just been named as finalists in this year’s ‘Family Business of the Year’ awards.

Organised by Family Business United, the leading magazine and resource centre for family businesses, the awards recognise the diversity and strength of family firms. That’s reflected in the fourteen finalists who include: Beaverbrooks the high-street jewellers, Graham & Brown, an online wallpaper and interior decorating supplier, ski school ESF and Hawkshead Relish an artisan producer of chutneys and pickles.

Diane, Danny and the Driver Hire Belfast team are no strangers to awards finals. In 2012 they were ‘Highly Commended’ at the Irish News ‘Workplace & Employment’ awards. More recently they were finalists in the British Franchise Association’s ‘Franchisee of the Year’ awards. They’re also heading for another record trading year – their fourth in a row!

“We’re delighted that, once again, our efforts have been recognised,” says Diane Maxwell, who purchased Driver Hire Belfast in 2012. “I think that working as a family team has helped in our ongoing success. There’s shorthand between us which is hard replicate. And, of course, there’s real family pride in everything we do.”

Sue Coulson, director of award sponsors Coulson Associates added: “Any of the finalists would make worthy winners and ambassadors for the sector. I’m looking forward to finding out more about each of them. The final decision on the winner is not going to be easy!”
