CEO delivers upbeat Conference message
Chief Executive, Chris Chidley, delivered an upbeat message to franchisees at Driver Hire’s recent Summer Conference, held at Liverpool’s Marriott Hotel. “I think the outlook is broadly positive,” said Chris. “Economic uncertainty does cause businesses to think long and hard about taking on fulltime employees, as opposed to retaining the flexibility of temporary staff. This is obviously very positive for us.”
Chris’s optimism is certainly confirmed by Driver Hire’s recent trading. On turnover the network is currently 37% of where it was last year. During the week commencing 15 July nearly a quarter of its office network were 50% up on the corresponding trading week in 2009.
“Once businesses do start recruiting again, we have our permanent recruitment offer. And Driver CPC provides an exciting market and opportunity for us,” he added.
Chris’s upbeat outlook was reflected by guest speaker, Hetal Mehta, a leading independent economist and member of Ernst & Young’s Independent Treasury and Economic Model (ITEM) forecasting group. She indicated that the UK economy is growing again, albeit marginally. This growth is likely to increase, although there is the risk that it will dip when the Government’s austerity programme kicks in.
