CEO anticipates Christmas cheer
Driver Hire is already looking forward to Christmas. Chris Chidley, the company’s chief executive is being encouraged by news of a big increase in demand for workers in the shipping industry.
“This suggests that people are being recruited to fill warehouses with stock for Christmas,” says Chris. “Over the coming weeks that stock will be delivered to the high street or, in the case of ever-growing online sales, direct to the costumer. As a leading supplier of drivers to parcel and multi-drop delivery companies, the months leading up to Christmas are always busy for us and our customers. We know what it takes to make sure we’ve got the drivers to meet the additional demand we’re anticipating. Whilst our customers can rest assured we’re all geared up and ready to go, we’d still like to hear from good drivers looking for work.”
This level of optimism is reflected by findings in the KPMG/REC ‘September Report on Jobs’ and an ‘Economic Confidence Report’ compiled by international law firm, Eversheds. The latter shows that transport and distribution is one of the most optimistic sectors in the UK economy with 39% of managers feeling more confident than they did at the beginning of the year.
The KPMG/REC ‘Report on Jobs’ shows there’s continued strong demand for drivers and growth in the market for temps.
“Demand for drivers is certainly on the up,” Chris Chidley continues. “This is supported by our own turnover figures. During our most recent week’s trading a quarter of our 94 office network were over 50% ahead of the same time last year. Year to date, Driver Hire’s nationwide network is 32% up.”
