Private postal operators Shutl could soon be hiring drivers after forging a deal with electronics firm Maplin, logisticsmanager.com reports.
Shutl, a London-based start-up, has signed a contract with Maplin to enable the firm to deliver products within 90 minutes. Online orders will also be catered for, with Shutl being able to provide delivery for 60 per cent of UK postcodes within an hour between 9am - 9pm, seven days a week.
Under the agreement, 83 Maplin stores will be covered; with plans to add a further 21 over the coming months.
The Maplin contract is one of a number of high-profile clients falling for Shutl's offering, with others including Argos, Oasis, Coast, Karen Millen and Warehouse. Its speedy turn-around times are based on a courier system that alleviates reliance on extended transit times and large remote distribution centres. The contracts have come despite Shutl having been in operation for just over two years.
Speaking to theretailbulletin.com about the contract, Gareth Pownall of Maplin explained: "This new partnership with Shutl will give our customers an even better access to our range of 15,000 products.
"Maplin is the first retailer to embed the Shutl delivery options within the checkout process, and with delivery starting from only £5, the service represents fantastic value for money."
