Restaurant giant Gondola Group, which owns Ask, Zizzi and Pizza Express, has signed a contract extension with Bidvest Logistics, logisticsmanager.com reports.
The catering group, which owns over 600 restaurants and employs 16,500 staff members, has signed a three-year contract extension, beginning in July 2012. The deal will see Bidvest supply restaurants with all their dry, frozen and chilled products.
The contract - thought to have been awarded following a rigorous tendering process - saw Gondola search for a supplier it deemed to have excellent service, an outstanding pricing model and a thorough understanding of the company's requirements. Eventually Gondola opted to renew the contract with Bidvest at an estimated cost of £86 million.
Once the agreement was reached, Gondola said that it was Bidvest's flexibility and quality of service led it to chose the logistics firm. Bidvest may now look at hiring drivers to help carry out the demanding workload.
Speaking to bidvestlogistics.com, the head of supply chain at Gondola Group, Andy Milner, enthused: "The flexibility and quality of service that Bidvest Logistics offered throughout the whole tendering process were key factors in our decision making.
"These, alongside the significant cost savings achieved and the high level of quality products offered made Bidvest Logistics our partner of choice and we are very much looking forward to working with them over the coming months and years."
