Vacancies rise but unemployment rate remains steady

In the three months to May, the number of job vacancies according to the ONS’s Labour Market Statistics for June 2013 rose to 516,000, up from 497,000 (figure recorded in the previous three-month period to February).


Whilst this is a positive indicator for those looking for a job, the number of people out of work has only dropped slightly. In the latest period for which data is available (three months to April 2013) total employment rose by 24,000 but the number of people out of work only dropped by 5,000.
