Northern Ireland's Woodside Group has taken delivery of 45 new Volvo trucks in a deal worth £4.1 million, reports.

As part of aggressive expansion plans, Woodside Group has taken control of its new fleet in what is thought to be the largest single vehicle purchase in Northern Ireland in the last year. The deal is also the largest order of its kind placed with Volvo in the last decade.

The 45 new vehicles, most of which are Volvo FH tractor units, will be used alongside Woodside's current fleet of 200 box vans, walking floor trailers, car transporters, liquid tanks and powder tanks. It is expected that the firm will now look at hiring drivers to staff its bolstered fleet.

Speaking to of the acquisition, Woodside's director Mark Woodside explained how it was their proximity to the dealer, as well as the fleet's admirable green credentials, which encouraged the firm to take on such a large order.

"We have developed a great relationship with Volvo dealer Dennison Commercials, which is based five miles away from the Woodside distribution depot and hub - this makes maintenance much more convenient," he explained.

"We were also impressed by the fuel consumption figures of the new Volvo units. We expect at least five years' service and an average annual mileage of 140,000 kms from each of these vehicles, so fuel economy is a critical criterion."
