London's Dorchester Hotel played host to the UKWA Awards, a ceremony which acknowledges excellence in the field of warehousing and third party logistics (3PL).

The awards, attended by hundreds of those with logistics and driving jobs, received the highest number of nominations than ever before - with the winners decided by the UKWA awards committee.

A total of ten awards were given out; including those for customer service, environmental activities, technology & innovation, team achievement and individual worker of the year.

Winners included Expect Distribution (customer service and team of the year), Linde Materials Handling (technology and innovation), DHL (training) and Century Logistics (team member for Des Bailey).

Roger Williams, UKWA's chief executive officer, told how the awards are highly coveted within the industry.

"UKWA's Awards are established as symbols of achievement in the 3PL sector and emphasise the importance of logistics within today's economy," he said.

"The high number and quality of the entries we received underlines the professionalism that runs through the modern logistics industry."

The awards ceremony was also the last with UKWA vice president Ken Richards, who announced his retirement recently. On the night, Richards was presented with the Chairman's Award.

Speaking to, Williams explained: "Anyone who has had anything to do with UKWA over the last 20 years will not need reminding of the immense, almost immeasurable contribution Ken Richards has made to the development of the association and to the industry as a whole.

"On leaving UKWA's management board he takes with him the gratitude and respect form all his colleagues over the years."
