The short list has been announced for the 2011 MAN Everywoman Awards ceremony.

The MAN Everywoman in Transport and Logistics honours women with driving jobs who've succeeded in what is traditionally seen to be a male-dominated environment.

Nominations have been open since November and now the short list has been announced - featuring three nominees in each category, ranging from Commercial Driver of the Year to Rising Star of the Year.

The individual categories are sponsored by the Royal Mail Group, Asda and DHL, among others.

An awards ceremony will take place at London's Savoy Hotel on May 4th, where politicians, captains of industry and some of the industry's most successful women will gather to honour those working in the industry.

Des Evans, Chief Executive of MAN Truck and Bus who are sponsoring the awards, told what the awards mean for the logistics business.

"MAN has a long established reputation of encouraging women to enter and excel in what by many is seen as a traditionally male dominated industry," he said.

"However, this perception is continuing to diminish fast as growing numbers of energetic, career-minded women choose to make a new start in the transport and logistics sector."

Co-founder and director of Everywoman, Maxine Benson MBE told of the calibre of entrants that greeted the judges this year, claiming: "The quality in this year's awards was impressive."

"The transport and logistics sector is so often overlooked but it is an area that offers huge opportunities for those wanting to make their mark. These finalists are a huge inspiration for other women wanting to move into the industry."
