Efficient management of logistics is key to thriving throughout economically hard times, according to a new study.
Research by SDA Bocconi School of Management has indicated that those who effectively manage their logistics are generally more co-ordinated, efficient and have a competitive advantage over their rivals.
Logisticsmanager.com reports this is due to effective co-ordination throughout a supply chain, a reduction of stock levels and a guarantee of quality services.
The researchers came to their conclusion via a detailed analysis of 30 multi-national companies in the consumer electronics, IT and telecommunications sectors. Their results highlight the benefits of hiring reputable logistics companies which offer their staff high-quality driver training.
Commenting on the results of the research, the School of Management's dean, Alberto Grando, was keen to point out the importance of logistics companies being environmentally considerate.
He told logisticsmediauk.co.uk: "A further element that emerged from the research is linked to a commitment to environmental sustainability. It will increasingly become a differentiator in the market and a guideline for customers' choices.
"Some companies have already taken steps in this direction, becoming part of associations for the recycle and disposal of electronic waste and creating green products, and many have been recognised with prestigious international awards for their work in this area."
