An HGV driver from Diss in Norfolk has been named as the "best" HGV1 operator in Britain and "fifth-best in the world".

According to the Diss Express, Darren Isacs took home the prestigious award at the recent World Fleet Board Championships.

Travelling to Germany to attend the event, Mr Isacs managed to impress the judges to such an extent that he was named the UK's best HGV1 driver. Mr Isacs' ability to prove his worth may have been boosted by his recent work within a CPC training programme, which Diss Express revealed he had joined.

The experienced driver works for the Bartrum Group, the joint managing director of which, Robert Bartrum, spoke out about his employee's success.

He stated: "We are proud of Darren's achievements, especially as it is the first time we entered the competition - he did the company and the UK proud."

Furthermore, Bartrum Group training manager, Luke Perry, added: "This is a phenomenal achievement for Darren, and with the added handicap that he has never driven a left hand drive truck before, which is what they used in Germany."

According to, the championship measures the driving efficiency of contestants and how environmentally conscious they are in their day-to-day driving.
