Remaining compliant with industry regulations is essential for any logistics consultancy, according to one industry expert.

Speaking to Road Transport, expert Daniel Holland - the operations director of an independent haulage firm - claimed that ensuring compliance at all times is key to keeping on top of industry laws and regulations.

He told the website how his company keeps up-to-date, concise records in order to do this; claiming: "If any driver did something have to show that you have been doing everything possible to prevent it."

"In this kind of industry, you can't afford to have anything fall below the radar. We have a daily agenda for what's happened in the last 24 hours and what will happen in the next 24 hours."

Holland added: "It's a way of nipping things in the bud."

The expert, also cited on, added that regular maintenance checks of all road-bound vehicles was another essential aspect of maintaining accurate records. It's all about companies doing everything in their power to make sure their job is done "correctly" and without error, Holland said.

Furthermore, regular driver training could help companies and their employees stay fully compliant, the director concluded.

He suggested that employees: "Sell the idea of training to drivers as a way to improve their skills," and check them randomly to ensure they were playing by the rules. Holland added that these checks would "keep drivers on their toes."
