City Link and MDA strike up a deal

Logistics firm City Link may be hiring drivers after securing a deal with marketing firm MDA.

MDA has been in operation for 23 years, creating and distributing promotional materials for companies including Coca Cola, Cadbury, Barclays and Virgin Trains.

As the business works to specific time constraints and deadlines, City Link opened a sorting office at the companies Blackburn headquarters to load pallets directly onto the trailers to be taken to City Link's hub in Coventry.

The set up allows MDA workers to fill and load the crates themselves, as managing director Dale Stokes explained. "We ship a lot of goods that can be easily damaged, such as glassware for promotions in pubs, or posters that can be easily crushed," he told logisticsmanager.com.

"We like the fact that our goods go directly into the cage at our premises and are not touched until the final part of their journey. City Link is effectively our transport department."

The agreement comes after a three year placement where City Link employees were stationed at MDA to work on service solutions to better their transport services and solutions.

Speaking of their business relationship, Stokes told mhwmagazine.co.uk: "City Link is more than just a carrier to us, it is a truly outsourced transport solution, it has really integrated into our business.

"They are specialists at what they do and that allows us to concentrate on being specialists at what we do - project management and marketing campaigns.
