The 2013 Startups Awards took place at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens on December 6. Now in its tenth year, the Startups Awards has earned a reputation for unearthing some of the UK’s finest entrepreneurial businesses, and shining a spotlight on the start-up market. Previous winners have gone on to enjoy phenomenal success, including BeatThatQuote.com, Wonga.com, Ella’s Kitchen, Glasses Direct, The Book Depository, Naked Wines and most recently The Cambridge Satchel company.
The prestigious awards, which recognise the UK’s most creative, innovative and ambitious new businesses, provided a fantastic opportunity for finalists to network with like-minded entrepreneurs – including the award judges – over a lively champagne reception and three-course lunch. There are 12 categories open to companies that commenced trading less than 3 years ago. Covering every business area, these include Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Digital Business of the Year.
All of the winners were selected by a judging panel consisting of some of the UK’s top entrepreneurs, including Mary Perkins, co-founder and a senior executive of the largest privately owned opticians in the world, Specsavers and Sarah Tremellen founder of Bravissimo, the tremendously successful lingerie business. The winners are announced at the lunch and there will be one overall winner who will get the highly coveted title of Simply Business Startups Business of the Year.
